Salzgitter AG establishes new Group Management Board

Supervisory Board approves appointment of the business unit heads

As part of the "Salzgitter AG 2015" reorganization project the Salzgitter Group has established a new Group organization structure that takes effect as of January 1, 2014. The new Group structure is aligned even more strongly than before to customer and market requirements. The Executive Board and business unit heads form the new Group Management Board. The Supervisory Board approved the appointment of the new business unit heads in its meeting on December 17, 2013.

The Group Management Board consists of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann (Chief Executive Officer), Dipl.-Volkswirt Burkhard Becker (Chief Financial Officer), Dipl.-Ökonom Michael Kieckbusch (Chief Personnel Officer/Industrial Relations Director) and the heads of the five business units of Strip Steel, Plate/Sections, Trading, Energy (formerly Tubes) and Technology.

As from January 1, 2014, the Executive Board members Wolfgang Eging and Heinz Groschke will act as heads of the Energy and Trading business units for their remaining terms of office as Board members.

The new heads of the respective business units are:

  • Dipl.-Ing. Ulrich Grethe, Strip Steel Business Unit
  • Dr.-Ing. Roger Schlim, Plate/Section Steel Business Unit
  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Niemeyer, Technology Business Unit

Mr Grethe (Salzgitter Flachstahl), Dr. Schlim (Peiner Träger) and Prof. Niemeyer (KHS) have all performed the duties of chief executive officer in their respective companies for many years.

The new Group Management Board consisting of the Executive Board members and the heads of the business units will decide all matters that have a material impact on the business units and coordinate operations. This approach ensures that the management and control of the Group factors in events directly taking place in the relevant markets.
