Salzgitter showcasing new steels and their applications

From 6 – 8 October the 6th International Suppliers Fair (IZB) will take place in Wolfsburg. The event will be attracting around 650 exhibitors from 22 countries. Canada and the United States are this year’s partner countries. The Salzgitter stand with the number 100 is situated in Hall 1. The following Salzgitter Group companies will be on location: Salzgitter Flachstahl, Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung, Salzgitter Europlatinen, Salzgitter Automotive Engineering, Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel, Salzgitter Hydroforming and Salzgitter Mannesmann Precision.

Topics and exhibits
StronSal, a product created in cooperation with Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung, is a key trade fair topic Salzgitter Flachstahl will be presenting. StronSal is a new zinc-magnesium hot dip coating with substantially improved corrosion protection. The exhibit shown is a fender. The high strength steel grades SZBS 600/800 area one salient example of innovative materials, and are finding use in the chassis of the Ford Fiesta for instance. A further trade fair topic are the hot-dip galvanized dual-phase steels employed in the outer paneling of vehicle bodies and as components. Here, the reinforcement of the A-pillar in the Audi Q5 is the object exhibited. The new HSD® steels will likewise be presented. Besides their exceptional ductility, they are very strong and therefore ideally suited for automotive applications. The utilization of HSD® steels contributes to the conservation of resources: lighter, fuel-saving vehicles can be designed and produced, as these lightweight steels enable greater weight reductions.

Salzgitter Europlatinen will be presenting tailored series steel solutions for the reduction of CO2 emissions. The tailored blanks (sidewall and longitudinal beam of high-strength material) and patchwork blanks (lock reinforcement) are examples from current vehicle series. The sheet thickness of these semi-finished products is individually reduced and their strength adapted to the specific purpose.

Salzgitter Hydroforming is the technology specialist for hydroforming, including all manufacturing processes. The main areas of application of this technology in the automotive industry are components for exhaust systems, the chassis and the vehicle body. SZHF is exhibiting one object for each of these applications.
