Salzgitter Group at the Tube 2010

The Tubes Division “Salzgitter Mannesmann” shows its colors in Düsseldorf

The Salzgitter Group and its subsidiaries will be on location at the Düsseldorf Tube 2010 on April 12 to 16, 2010 in Hall 4 / Stand 42. The Tube 2010 in Düsseldorf showcases the latest trends and technologies in pipe and tube production and finishing. Manufacturers and suppliers from all over the world will be presenting their product portfolios on the Dusseldorf trade fair grounds.

The companies of the Tubes Division of Salzgitter AG offer customers an extensive portfolio of steel tube and pipe products, comprising seamless tubes, large-scale tubes with longitudinal and spiral welded seams, stainless steel tubes, as well as welded precision pipes - and rounded off by HFI-welded pipelines. Fielding these high-quality products, the companies either hold top market positions, or rank as world market leaders.

Exhibits and topics

Nord Stream is an offshore project consisting of two phases. The pipeline has a total length of 2 x 1,220 km and extends from Wyborg, Russian Federation, to Greifswald, Germany. EUROPIPE is a joint venture of Salzgitter Mannesmann GmbH and Dillinger Hüttenwerke AG and the main supplier in both phases of the large-diameter (outer diameter 48“) longitudinal seam-welded line pipes. In the period from April 2008 to March 2010, EUROPIPE produced the first pipeline section with a length of approx. 990 km (860,000 tons). The line pipes for the parallel section (approx. 848 km, or 714,000 tons) will be produced in the period from April 2010 to September 2011. Serving the Nord Stream project, the pipe bending plant of Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech produced inductive bends with dimensions of 28 inches and 38 inches (onshore stations on the Russian and German side), including the 48-inch line pipes for both segments at the landfall of the main pipeline in Russia and Germany. At the Tube 2010, Salzgitter will be exhibiting one of these bends with an outer diameter wall thickness of 48“ x 39 mm, a bending angle of 22.5 degrees and a radius of 5D (6105 mm).

Salzgitter Mannesmann Line Pipe, the leading manufacturer of HFI-welded steel pipes, will be showcasing an uncoated 16-inch line pipe that demonstrates the characteristics of the new maximum wall thickness of 1 inch/25.4mm. This new wall thickness is available for various applications in mechanical engineering and steel construction, for offshore wind energy plants and oil platforms, gas and pipe storage facilities, as well as power plant construction and many other industrial areas. The presentation of Salzgitter Mannesmann Line Pipe includes two additional exhibits, highlighting the special FZM-S version for trenchless pipe-laying, finished with a MAPEC® 3-layer PE coating with integrated special T-ribbing, additional rough coating and FZM-S top coat.

Salzgitter Mannesmann Precision presents an excerpt of the company's extensive manufacturing program of seamless and welded precision steel tubes and pipes with dimensional ranges that include diameters extending from 1.5 mm to 380 mm, at wall thicknesses from 0.2 mm to 25.0 mm. Precision steel pipes and tubes are used in many industrial areas including, for example, the automotive and supplier industry, the field of hydraulic and pneumatic engineering, boiler construction, equipment and plant engineering, as well as in the energy industries. At the SMP stand, trade fair visitors will be introduced to a wide range of applications for precision steel pipes and tubes, including Diesel injection pipes, shock absorbers, drive shafts, drill tubes, heat exchangers and hydraulic cylinders.

At this year’s Tube 2010, Salzgitter Mannesmann Seamless Tubes will be exhibiting a bent heat exchanger pipe. The bent pipe features the dimensions 19.05 x 2.11(mw) mm and a length of 25.0 m and is made of steel grade ASME SA 210, grade A1. The product is suited, for example, for applications in the field of solar plants, air coolers, heat exchangers, preheating systems, feedwater heaters and evaporators.

Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes (formerly Mannesmann DMV Stainless) is one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of seamless stainless steel and nickel based alloy tubes and pipes. At the Tube 2010, the company will be showcasing tube and pipe products for the oil and gas industry, for power plant and furnace construction, as well as for the (petro-) chemical industry. Oil field pipes, OCTG and Umbilical support innovative applications, for example, in ultra deep water, giant depth, Arctic Circle, EOR and LNG/GTL. Boiler tubes are implemented in the supercritical areas of state-of-the-art power plants (particularly as reheaters and superheaters). Shot peening represents a finishing option for these tubes.

Under the motto "Products for joining!", Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel will be highlighting the VIROTEC® system. The system comprises pipe joint elements which supplement the pipe inventory of stockholding traders for applications in pipeline construction and particularly for sprinkler systems construction (automatic stationary fire extinguishing systems). These innovative and high performance products are characterized by the following benefits: easy and fast assembly, exceptional functional reliability, extensive product range of products, pleasing design and excellent quality workmanship.

The Salzgitter Hydroforming is the specialist for hydroforming (internal high pressure forming) components within the Salzgitter Group. At the Tube, SZHF will also be exhibiting stainless steel hydroformed components for exhaust gas systems. A hydroforming concept study presents car body and chassis components and demonstrates potentials for light-weight construction in the automotive industry.
