Customized coating with highly accurate tolerances Salzgitter Flachstahl honored by BSH

BSH Bosch and Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH has conferred an award on Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG). Every two years, Europe’s leading manufacturer of home appliances honors suppliers who excel through their outstanding performance with regard to quality, reliability, flexibility, innovation and pricing.

Salzgitter Flachstahl received an award in the “Prematerials” category. The award was presented to Ulrich Grethe, CEO, and Dr. Sebastian Bross, CSO. SZFG is the second steel producer to have ever received this kind of honor from BSH.

Salzgitter Flachstahl has been supplying the home appliance manufacturer with standard products since 2009. Appliance front and side walls are made from organically coated thin sheet.

Salzgitter Flachstahl supplies BSH with FolaSal® in a customized coating suitable for home appliances in BSH white. The color of the material provided by Salzgitter Flachstahl has to match the other plastic and metal parts supplied by other manufacturers. Consequently, the material has to be produced on the strip coating line with the most accurate of color tolerances. The material supplied by Salzgitter Flachstahl also impresses with very good formability and high resistance to moisture, detergents and UV radiation.

Environmental compatibility is also particularly important. The material not only has to meet national and European requirements, such as RoHS and the REACH regulation (European regulation for the reduction of hazardous substances), but also has to comply with the much more stringent BSH-specific material prohibition and avoidance lists.

The honor is the reward for continuing to meet customer wishes and for the consistent, further development of the FolaSal® product line. In addition to cold-rolled and hot-dip galvanized base material, FolaSal® is also available on StronSal®, a zinc-magnesium coating. FolaSal StronSal® has clear advantages with respect to corrosion resistance and thus makes an additional contribution to the conservation of resources and material efficiency.
