TGIF - Installation by Šejla Kamerić symbolizing the transformation of industrial society

As from June 15 and through to October 6, 2024, the 6th Lichtparours (light trail) in Braunschweig is taking place – and this year with the support of Salzgitter AG. The installation by Šejla Kamerić is made of Salzgitter steel, among other materials, from which the striking letters of the artwork were manufactured in workshops at the steelworks.

The imposing steel letters that are protruding from the ground under the Ottmerbrücke bridge on John-F.-Kennedy-Platz in Braunschweig measure a good two meters: TGIF - stands for Thank God It's Friday. This acronym underlines the perpetual drive and unceasing pursuit of progress. Consequently, Friday not only symbolizes a turning point, but also the departure towards climate neutrality and the transformation of industrial society. The videos projected onto the artwork by way of a projector impressively demonstrate the transition from the conventional industrial world to the new green economy.

"The installation impressively reflects the situation of the Salzgitter Group; we are also in the midst of the transformation towards the circular economy and CO2-reduced steel production. In this way, we are actively shaping and designing the transformation of the industry, setting standards and making a significant contribution to society," as Thorsten Möllmann, Head of Communications and Brand stated.

All in all, a total of 13 works by renowned artists will be on display, and will be shining in the public space every day from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. - and can be viewed free of charge.
