Tube: Salzgitter Group dialogs with customers and partners

The Salzgitter Group will be dialoging with customers and partners at the Tube in Düsseldorf from March 26 to 30, 2012. Together with its Tubes Division and other companies, Salzgitter AG will be on location in Hall 4, Stand H42.

The companies of the Tubes Division, combined under and headed by Mannesmannröhren-Werke GmbH, offer their customers a wide range of steel tubes and pipes: the product spectrum covers seam- and spiral-welded large-diameter pipes, seamless stainless steel tubes as well as seamless and welded precision tubes, rounded off by HFI-welded pipes. The companies occupy leading positions in the market or, in some cases, even rank as global leaders with these premium products of international renown and acclaim - salient examples being EUROPIPE GmbH, a joint venture of Salzgitter Mannesmann GmbH and Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke.

EUROPIPE recently won a significant contract in Australia for the bulk delivery (410 ktons, corresponding to 60 %) to a high-profile offshore project. The Ichthys LNG project (liquefied natural gas) is to transport natural gas from the Ichthys field through a 889 km-long offshore pipeline to Darwin. The gas will be liquefied at the world's largest LNG plant and most of it shipped to Japan.

Topic areas and exhibits

The Diemen – Almere District Heating Pipeline Project in the Netherlands, realized in cooperation with Group partners, will be featured. One of the exhibits, displayed under the motto "Stahl-in-Stahl" (steel-in-steel), is used internationally for the safe transport of hot water, steam, condensate, thermal oil and cooling water for all pressures and temperatures up to 400°C.

In collaboration with Salzgitter Mannesmann Großrohr and Salzgitter Mannesmann Line Pipe, Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel delivered input material to FW-Fernwärme-Technik, a company based in Celle, for a DN500/DN700 district heating pipeline encased in steel to supply heating to the new residential area in Almere in the urban center of Amsterdam. The heat is produced in the cogeneration facilities in the Diemen heat generating plant. The 17 km flow and return flow pipeline, which operates entirely without compensators, has been laid along a route of 8.5 km and runs directly through Lake Ijssel.

EUROPIPE
EUROPIPE, a joint-venture of the Salzgitter Group and Dillinger Hütte, has showcased two topics for the trade fair. The NEL – North European Gas Pipeline – will lead from the Nord Stream pipeline's landing point in Lubmin near Greifswald past Schwerin and Hamburg all the way down to Rehden in Lower Saxony. It connects the Nord Stream pipeline as well as the OPAL natural gas pipeline, which runs right through to the Czech Republic, with Europe's transmission system. EUROPIPE is the sole supplier of large-diameter pipes for both OPAL and NEL. The section of pipeline exhibited is 1,000 mm long and weighs 770 kg.

Big Foot TLP: This high-strength, extremely thick walled UOE pipe is one of the main components in the tension legs (tension anchor) of tension leg platforms (TLP), in this instance for underwater depths of around 1,600 meters, the deepest water depth ever bridged by a TLP. Tension legs are used to anchor swimming oil and gas platforms to the seabed and can weather even the strongest of storms. Along with absorbing extreme tensile stress, the pipelines must withstand fatigue from the influence of rough seas and the greater external water pressure. The section of pipeline exhibited is 1,000 mm long and weighs 930 kg.

Salzgitter Mannesmann Precision
Seamless and welded precision steel tubes manufactured by Salzgitter Mannesmann Precision (SMP) are used in the automotive and energy sectors and industry at large. SMP develops and manufactures welded-drawn and seamless-drawn precision steel tubes for automotive lightweight construction. Examples here include diesel injection systems, high-precision transmission shafts, sophisticatedly processed camshafts and piston rod tubes (added value products).Low-temperature precision steel tubes ensure the necessary safety in cylinder construction, whether for mobile cranes or construction machinery and, in particular, under varying climatic conditions. In the energy industry, drill rods (Drillmax) are employed in geological drilling.

Salzgitter Hydroforming GmbH & Co. KG
Innovative tube forming using hydroforming is the highlight exhibited by Salzgitter Hydroforming. The application areas for hydroformed building components is growing steadily. The scope for design afforded by hydroforming has proven its worth for many years in automotive lightweight construction solutions and is eliciting increasing interest in other sectors. The functional principle of this media-based forming process will be illustrated by a demonstrator.
