Salzgitter presents new types of steel and applications

From 26 to 30 October 2010, EuroBLECH in Hannover will once again feature as the “must attend” meeting place for everyone involved in sheet metal manufacture, forming and trading. The Salzgitter Group companies will be on location in Hall 16, Stand F54, including Salzgitter Flachstahl, Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung, Salzgitter Europlatinen, Salzgitter Automotive Engineering, Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel and Salzgitter Hydroforming. Some 1,400 exhibitors from 40 countries will be presenting smart solutions and leading-edge technologies at the world’s largest sheet metal forming fair.

Topics, exhibits and presentations

StronSal is a key topic that Salzgitter Flachstahl will be presenting in cooperation with Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung is StronSal®. This product is an all-new zinc-magnesium hot dip coating with considerably improved corrosion protection. A fender was chosen as exhibit. The high strength steel grades SZBS 600/800 are a salient example of innovative materials, and are finding use in the chassis of the Ford Fiesta, for example. Hot-dip galvanized dual-phase steels used in the outer panelling of vehicle bodies and as components feature as another key trade fair topic. The reinforcement of the A-pillar in the Audi Q5 is the object exhibited. The new HSD® steels will likewise be presented. Besides their exceptional ductility, they are very strong and therefore ideally suited automotive engineering applications. The use of HSD® steel contributes to the conservation of resources: as these lightweight steels enable greater weight reductions it is possible to design and manufacture lighter vehicles achieving enhanced fuel economy.

Salzgitter Europlatinen will be presenting tailored series steel solutions contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions. The tailored blanks (sidewall and longitudinal beam of high-strength material) and patchwork blanks (lock reinforcement) are examples from current vehicle series. The thickness of these semi-finished products is individually reduced and their strengths adapted to the specific purpose.

Salzgitter Hydroforming is the technology specialist for hydroforming, including all manufacturing processes. The main application areas of this technology in the automotive industry comprise components for exhaust systems, the chassis and the vehicle body. SZHF is exhibiting one object for each of these applications. Together with its companies and subsidiaries, Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH is responsible for the stockholding steel trade in Germany and Europe and for the international trading segment, while also acting as the exclusive sales partner of the producing companies of the Salzgitter Group. Representing the Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel Group, the focus at the fair will be on the companies Universal Eisen und Stahl as a stockholding heavy plate specialist and Hövelmann & Lueg as a steel service center providing a wide range of offerings and services.
