Train crash in Sachsen-Anhalt

A freight train carrying chalk that was owned by our subsidiary company VPS collided head-on with a local passenger train at Hordorf station late on Saturday evening (29/1/2011).

We are deeply saddened by this terrible rail accident. Our sympathies go out to the victims of this tragic accident and their families. We wish those who suffered injuries and are receiving medical treatment a full and speedy recovery.

The inquiry is being conducted by the police and the public prosecutor’s office. The authorities and political leaders in Sachsen-Anhalt yesterday assured that the investigation would be concluded as quickly as possible in order to promptly provide reliable findings. These findings will then be evaluated and interpreted and will form the basis of a conclusive verdict.

As one of the parties concerned we must comply with these procedures. We not only fully accept this procedure but also expressly support all related investigations. All administrative documents and records which will assist in reaching conclusive findings will be made fully available to the investigating authorities.
