Several companies already moving to secure green steel
High-profile customers from various sectors have now concluded contractual agreements with the Salzgitter Group re- garding various forms of cooperation in terms of green steel. The Miele Group, for example, is a world-leading manufac- turer of premium domestic appliances. As part of the Salzgitter AG partnering program, Miele has signed a declaration of intent with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, securing a defined quantity of green steel even at this early stage.
The Salzgitter Group has concluded sim- ilar partnering agreements with numer- ous other companies from various sec- tors, including VW, Ford, Mendritzki, Mubea, BMW, Ørstedt and BSH Haus- geräte GmbH.

SUSTAINABILITY AWARD FOR SZFG
Prize presented by Mercedes-Benz AG
Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG) has received the Sustainability Award 2022 from Mercedes-Benz AG. The accolade was presented to Dr. Michael Brühl, Di- rector of Cold-Rolled Flat Products at Salzgitter Flachstahl, during the Supplier Circle 2022 event at the Mercedes-Benz Customer Center in Sindelfingen. “We’re proud that, with our green steel prod- ucts, we’re helping our customers to achieve their CO2 reduction targets,” said Dr. Brühl.
The Supplier Award 2022 was bestowed in three categories: quality, innovation and sustainability. SZFG received its award in the sustainability category for producing and supplying steel with a re- duced carbon footprint. Since 2021, SZFG has been providing flat rolled steel produced entailing over 60% less CO2.
The Supplier Circle event is organized by the Procurement department at Mer- cedes-Benz and brings hundreds of suppli- er representatives together from around the world. Ola Källenius, CEO of Mer- cedes-Benz, gave the welcome address.
